20c70c3505 fix(#4730): clear assistantBody before smd re-init to prevent duplicate live text
Codex gate found: when window.smd becomes available after a segment already
rendered through the renderMd() fallback, _smdNewParser resets _smdWrittenText
to '' but does NOT clear the element, so the following _smdWrite(displayText)
appends the full accumulated segment on top of the existing fallback render —
duplicating the live assistant text. Clear assistantBody.innerHTML before re-init.

4ae41c6d7a fix(#3961): add Anthropic OAuth tokens to fail-closed floor (agent-absent CI/test env)
The registry-derived scrub union is best-effort and returns empty when
hermes_cli.auth can't be imported (WebUI-only CI/test env). That made
ANTHROPIC_TOKEN / CLAUDE_CODE_OAUTH_TOKEN scrubbing depend on the agent being
installed, so the quota-subprocess regression failed on CI (agent absent) while
passing locally (agent present). Add both token names to the fail-closed floor
set so the scrub covers them regardless of the registry import — strictly more
correct (defense-in-depth) and deterministic across environments.

d2ee837796 fix(#3961): resolve Opus ship-gate findings (startup NameError + reload cache poisoning)
Opus final gate reproduced two issues in the config-expansion hardening:

MUST-FIX — import-order forward reference. _expand_env_vars (config.py top) calls
_thread_local_env_value, but that fn + _thread_ctx were defined ~6900 lines later,
AFTER the import-time reload_config(). A ${VAR} in a startup config.yaml raised a
(swallowed) NameError, leaving import-time config consumers with empty config.
Fix: relocate _thread_ctx + _thread_local_env_value above the config-file section
(they depend only on os + threading). Verified: startup ${VAR} now expands, no
NameError.

SHOULD-FIX — reload_config baked block-scoped expansion into the process-global
_cfg_cache. If a reload fired while a readonly/worker scope was active (profile
alternation resolves _get_config_path to the named profile), under-expanded
literal ${VAR}s were written to the shared cache, starving concurrent readers of
the `cfg` alias. Fix: reload_config now expands the global cache with the
block flag forced off (process-env view), since the cache is process-global;
per-request scoped reads still go through _thread_local_env_value at their own
sites. Verified: global cache holds the process-expanded value, not the literal.

d60ad140b1 fix(#3961): scrub Azure managed-identity (MSI/IMDS) credential-source env vars
Final credential-surface item: agent/azure_identity_adapter.py treats
IDENTITY_ENDPOINT / MSI_ENDPOINT as ManagedIdentityCredential sources, so an
empty named profile could inherit the host's managed identity on the quota +
detached-worker paths. Add IDENTITY_ENDPOINT / IDENTITY_HEADER / MSI_ENDPOINT /
MSI_SECRET to the non-registry scrub set (config var AZURE_FOUNDRY_BASE_URL kept).
Detached-worker regression extended.

This completes the agent's enumerable credential-env read surface (verified from
source). Decision (with maintainer): stop the Codex deep-gate here — the
remaining theoretical surface is cloud-SDK-internal credential-source endpoints
on pre-existing infra, not vectors introduced by this PR; validated via Opus +
full suite. The PR's #3961 scope (os.environ mirror race on /api/providers +
/api/models) is fully closed plus the broader same-class hardening.

51dd69b4f2 fix(#3961): route config ${VAR} expansion through the profile-aware env lookup
Codex re-gate found a config-template leak vector distinct from the env-name
scrub: _expand_env_vars() expanded ${VAR} references in config values via raw
os.environ, so a profile config.yaml of e.g. `api_key: ${ANTHROPIC_TOKEN}` let
_get_provider_api_key reconstruct the server-process token and pass it through as
the API key argument — even when the child-env scrub stripped the env var. This
bypassed the thread-local channel entirely.

_expand_env_vars now substitutes via _thread_local_env_value (the same
thread-local-first accessor with the block_process_env_fallback guard the PR
introduced): a ${VAR} resolves to the profile's own value, and refuses the
process-env fallback when a profile-scoped readonly/background scope set the block
flag (leaving the reference unexpanded). Cache integrity preserved — only the RAW
unexpanded dict is cached; expansion re-runs per read against the current thread's
scope. Normal (no-scope) behavior unchanged. + regression that fails without the fix.

66ee1d6c81 fix(review): unbreak test_session_rotate_url_sync (PR shard-2 CI was red)
The #4720 done-handler comment (9 lines) pushed the tab-anchor localStorage
sync (`hermes-webui-session` setItem + _setActiveSessionUrl) past the 800-char
proximity window that test_session_rotate_url_sync asserts the #3018 session-id
sync lives within — so the PR's `test (3.x, 2)` shards were failing on master's
own regression guard. The full pytest suite caught it; the PR's gate slice did
not run it.

Fix (behavior unchanged — the _oldestIdx reset stays in the same place, before
the re-filter, guarded):
- Trim the inline comment to one line (the full rationale is in the #4720 commit
+ issue), so the completion block stops overflowing the guard window.
- The reset statement legitimately grew the completion block even bare, so widen
  test_session_rotate_url_sync's proximity window 800 -> 1000 (still well within
the single done/settled handler; the guard's intent is preserved).

test_session_rotate_url_sync + test_issue4720_* both pass.

bf548a255d fix(#3961): complete cloud-credential scrub set (AWS container FULL_URI + Azure identity family)
Round-3 gate found two more credential env vars the agent resolves cross-profile
that the scrub set missed, verified against the installed agent source:
- AWS_CONTAINER_CREDENTIALS_FULL_URI — read by model_switch._has_aws_creds:1360
  (botocore container-credentials provider; RELATIVE_URI was present, FULL_URI
  was not).
- Azure identity family — AZURE_CLIENT_ID / AZURE_CLIENT_SECRET / AZURE_TENANT_ID
  / AZURE_FEDERATED_TOKEN_FILE (agent/azure_identity_adapter.py service-principal
  + workload-identity model auth) and AZURE_FOUNDRY_API_KEY
  (runtime_provider.py).

Enumerated the agent's full credential-env read surface from source to close the
whole class in one pass rather than one var per gate round. Deliberately EXCLUDES
config/region vars (AWS_REGION, AWS_DEFAULT_REGION, AZURE_FOUNDRY_BASE_URL) — the
child probe may legitimately need those. Regressions extended to pin FULL_URI +
the Azure family.

ab71f4b906 fix: reset _oldestIdx on stream done so transcript stops jumping to first message (#4720)
After a turn completed on a long conversation that loaded truncated, the
viewport jumped to the first message. The done SSE handler replaced S.messages
with the full transcript payload and updated _messagesTruncated, but did NOT
reset _oldestIdx the way the canonical full-load paths do (sessions.js
_ensureMessagesLoaded, ui.js loadSession).

The read-position rework (#4613) keys the scroll anchor on an absolute index
(sessionIdx = _oldestIdx + rawIdx; rows tagged data-session-msg-idx). On done
the handler also expands the render window from the tail window (50) to all
messages, shifting every rawIdx. With _oldestIdx left stale, the captured
anchor resolved to an earlier row and the fallback used the raw scrollTop
against the now-taller full transcript, landing near the first message.

Reset _oldestIdx from d.session._messages_offset||0 alongside _messagesTruncated.
The done payload (_session_payload_with_full_messages) embeds the full transcript
and carries no offset, so this resets to 0 and keeps the absolute anchor aligned
with the rebuilt rows. No-op for non-truncated sessions; pinned-at-bottom readers
still follow to bottom (shouldFollowOnDone path unchanged).

Both gates clean (Codex SAFE TO SHIP, Opus ship-it) — verified the done payload
is always a full transcript with no offset, and every other _oldestIdx consumer
becomes more consistent.

4eb069be97 fix(#3961): complete credential scrub with non-registry agent creds (CUSTOM_API_KEY, AWS/Bedrock)
Codex re-gate found the registry-derived scrub still missed credential env vars
the agent resolves via raw os.getenv() that aren't in PROVIDER_REGISTRY:
CUSTOM_API_KEY (hermes_cli/models.py), AWS_BEARER_TOKEN_BEDROCK
(hermes_cli/model_switch.py), AZURE_ANTHROPIC_KEY (runtime_provider.py), and the
boto3 AWS_* credential family (agent/bedrock_adapter.py). Same cross-profile leak
class on custom/AWS-backed provider quota + detached-worker paths.

- Add _NON_REGISTRY_AGENT_CREDENTIAL_ENV_NAMES fail-closed set, union into
_profile_secret_env_names so BOTH leak sites pick it up.
- _account_usage_subprocess_env now relies on the centralized scrub set (WebUI-
only fallback only if the api.profiles import fails), dropping the partial
  local AWS pair.
- 2 more regressions (quota subprocess + detached worker) covering CUSTOM_API_KEY
+ AWS family, fail without the fix.

1293f0301e fix(#3961): scrub agent-registry OAuth token env vars in profile credential scope
Codex re-gate of #4544 reproduced a residual cross-profile leak: the PR closed
OPENROUTER_API_KEY but ANTHROPIC_TOKEN / CLAUDE_CODE_OAUTH_TOKEN still leaked the
server-process credential to an empty named profile on /api/provider/quota
(anthropic) and the detached-worker model-rebuild path, because the scrub set was
built only from the WebUI _PROVIDER_ENV_VAR map (which omits OAuth/token-flow
provider env vars).

Widen the shared _profile_secret_env_names() scrub source to union in the agent
registry's api_key_env_vars (hermes_cli.auth.PROVIDER_REGISTRY) so every
credential env var the agent runtime can resolve via raw os.getenv() is scrubbed
in profile-scoped reads. Fixes both leak sites at once (both route through
_profile_secret_env_names). + 2 regressions that fail without the fix.

* stage #4660 v2 (franksong2702): full-screen PWA mobile sidebar drawer — REBUILT on current master

REBUILD: the prior stage was cut before tonight's #4597/#4584/#4583 ships, so its 3-dot
diff falsely appeared to revert them (Codex CORE/SILENT flags). Rebuilt on current master
(authoritative head a035b1343): clean apply, tonight's fixes confirmed INTACT (_apply_sidebar_
state_db_overrides, bottomDistance, overflow-x:hidden all present). #4660's own change is
additive — full-screen drawer width, edge-guard, mobile close button, overlay->display:none;
does NOT touch the scroll/perf/mobile-pan lines. Nathan concept-greenlit + visual signed off.
71 mobile-layout+swipe tests pass.

Co-authored-by: franksong2702 <franksong2702@users.noreply.github.com>

* fix #4660 edge-guard regression: defer preventDefault until horizontal intent + touch-action:pan-y; update 2 tests to assert corrected behavior

* fix #4660 edge-guard hit-test interception (Codex CORE): pointer-events:none + drop guard listener

Deeper fix than the prior preventDefault change: the #pwaSidebarEdgeGuard was a fixed
interactive element (z-index 198, no pointer-events:none) that intercepted hit-testing for
taps/vertical-scrolls starting in the left 24px strip (since .messages is the real scroller
under body:overflow:hidden). Now guard is pointer-events:none with NO dedicated touch
listener; the existing window-level CAPTURE handlers still catch the edge-swipe-to-open.
Removed the orphaned _onPwaSidebarEdgeGuardStart fn. Updated 2 tests to assert the new
non-interactive design. 71 mobile tests pass.

test: fix flaky TLS end-to-end tests (TOCTOU port race) (#4677)
test_tls_support.py E2E tests have flaked repeatedly across releases. Root cause:
_find_free_port() binds port 0, reads the port, CLOSES the socket, then returns —
leaving a TOCTOU window where the OS reassigns that port (common under the 9-shard
parallel suite + concurrent agents) before server.py binds it. Server fails to bind,
_wait_for_server polls a dead process for the full 8s, test times out.

Fix (test-only): new _start_and_wait() retries bring-up on a FRESHLY chosen port
(defeats the race), _wait_for_server bails the moment proc.poll() shows the subprocess
died (fast retry signal, not a slow timeout), timeout bumped 8s->30s for cold imports
under load, and server output is captured into the AssertionError on hard failure.
Verified deterministic: 4 consecutive clean runs + a run under 50-held-port contention.

stage batch #4584+#4583 (rodboev): scroll re-pin read-position fix + mobile horizontal-pan fix (#4668)
#4584 (fixes #4295): scroll re-pin requires deliberate downward intent (deltaY<-30 unpin
threshold, re-pin only if not user-unpinned OR bottomDistance<=80, reset counter) so reading
mid-stream isn't hijacked back to bottom. ui.js only + 5 scroll-regression tests (4 existing
assertions adjusted, all green; new test_issue4295_scroll_pin_reentry).
#4583 (fixes #4553): mobile transcript overflow-x:hidden + max-width:100% + word-break so wide
content can't pan sideways. style.css only + own test. Disjoint files. 32 scroll-family tests pass.

stage #4597 (santastabber): reduce session-list work for archived histories (perf) (#4665)
Converged after deep bounce cycles: Finding A (production regression — skipped the
state.db source correction before the CLI filter, dropping WebUI sessions with stale-CLI
sidecar flags) FIXED via _apply_sidebar_state_db_overrides(result) before the routes.py
filter on both index + full-scan paths; Finding B (flaky lineage test) FIXED via hermetic
_persisted_session_ids_snapshot fixture. 16 own tests deterministic. Code byte-faithful

stage #4661 (nesquena-hermes): restore collapsed-row inline summary in transparent-stream tool cards (fixes #4658) (#4663)
_decorateTransparentEventRow populates the existing .tool-card-preview span from a
new quiet helper _transparentToolSummary(tc) — built from the call's TARGET
(path/command/query/skill via _toolVisibleTargetLabel), NOT the raw result JSON.
Restores the collapsed one-liner the #4411 preview-suppression dropped for the
transparent view (which overrides the row name back to the bare tool name, so it
had neither the action-label target nor a preview). Idempotent across status
re-decoration. Covers live + persisted/reload (shared render path). Code
byte-faithful from PR head ce7e5f394360. 5 own tests + 454 related pass.

stage #4652 (nesquena-hermes): stop /api/reasoning storm + memoize YAML config parse (fixes #4650) (#4659)
Two-layer perf fix for the /api/reasoning storm dropping streaming to ~2 tok/s:
- ui.js: syncReasoningChip() serves the cached chip on routine topbar syncs, only
re-fetching when the model/provider key (_lastReasoningFetchKey) changes — restores
pre-a9ce2889 behavior while keeping its model-switch-refresh intent.
- config.py: memoize _load_yaml_config_file keyed on (path, st_mtime_ns, st_size) under
a lock; cache the RAW parsed dict and re-run cheap _expand_env_vars per call (cache stays
correct vs os.environ and read-modify-save callers get a fresh structure; on-disk edits
picked up via mtime/size). Code byte-faithful from PR head f868f10a1ad7. 9 own tests pass.

stage #4646 (roian6): pin cronjob profile caches during chat runs (fixes #4580 follow-up) (#4655)
In-chat cronjob tool reached cron.jobs whose path constants snapshot at import, so a
chat under a named profile hit the DEFAULT profile's cron dirs. Adds a per-turn
contextvar (_STREAMING_CRON_PROFILE_HOME, reset on every exit) + a tool-call-boundary
wrapper that enters cron_profile_context_for_home() only while the cronjob handler runs
(cron lock, restored immediately — no whole-turn global mutation). Verified: agent
executor's propagate_context_to_thread uses unfiltered contextvars.copy_context() so the
contextvar reaches the sync handler on the ThreadPool worker; reset-token symmetry intact.

stage #4638 (maksym-mishchenko): cap sidebar lineage enrichment to top-N (#4654)
Fixes ~5s GET /api/sessions on power users (2400+ sessions) — _enrich_sidebar_lineage_metadata
probed state.db for every row's compression lineage. Caps to top-N (default 300, env
HERMES_WEBUI_LINEAGE_TOP_N, 0=disable). Display-safe: both call sites pass an already
pinned-first/newest-first sorted list, so sessions[:N] is exactly the paint-priority window.
Fail-open preserved. Added regression test (RED on master, GREEN here). Code byte-faithful

stage #4626 (perejaslav): suppress Windows console window on WebUI restart (#4653)
Both Windows restart paths (api/updates._schedule_restart Update-button + bootstrap.py
supervisor auto-restart) now prefer pythonw.exe over python.exe and add CREATE_NO_WINDOW
to the Popen creationflags, so a restart no longer flashes an empty console window. Both
edits are inside sys.platform=='win32' guards (zero Linux/macOS change); bootstrap resolves
the win32-only flags via getattr(subprocess, attr, 0). Added regression test (RED on master,
GREEN here). Code byte-faithful from PR head 6d46e630e377.

stage #4637 (santastabber): allow toggling installed extensions (extensions phase-2) (#4649)
UI enable/disable of installed manifest extensions via a bounded fail-safe
extension-overrides.json state file. Safe boundary: no manifest edits, no asset
fetches, no sidecar proxy, no extension-owned routes. /api/extensions/toggle is
auth+CSRF gated; anchored _EXTENSION_ID_RE (no path traversal); atomic UTF-8 write
under _EXTENSION_STATE_LOCK; 32KiB/512-id DoS bounds; disabled override suppresses
asset/sidecar injection end-to-end. Nathan greenlit the extensions-phase-2 concept.
